Software Testing Straight Talk (STST 2012)
Software Testing Straight Talk (STST 2012) was on November 27-28, 2012 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event is a national forum on Software Testing jointly organised by Malaysian Software Testing Board (MSTB), Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and Standards Malaysia. It was a good event and an opportunity to meet with testers and to share testing knowledge and experience with them.
There were were several keynotes after the opening of the event in order to update the participants about the current trends and developments and also sharing experiences. Then, workshops started where people where divided into three main tracks about the supply for testing and testers, the demand and also the collaboration between academic field and industry.
I was assigned to be in the third track about the collaboration between academic field and industry. It was great to share and know from others the experiences of universities which started to add software testing to their programs. There were many suggestions and recommendations in order to push testing more further and to encourage more students to join those testing programs.
In addition and as a trainer with Microsoft in Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) program, I did share what big companies such as Microsoft and Google do in order to encourage students to join their development programs. We can do similar things for testing too.
Looking forward that the feedback and recommendations from STST 2012 will be used as an input in planning for the future development programs for the industry.
All the best…
