Why Testers are not the Goalkeepers of Bugs?
Several times I hear people say: “Testers are the goalkeepers of bugs”. Therefore, those people believe that testing team only should never let bugs pass to the final release to the customer! I have my point of view about such saying and that is what I am going to write about in this post.
Having goalkeepers for bugs does not mean it is only their responsibility not to let the bugs pass. In addition to goalkeepers, we should have defense, midfield and also offense line who are the rest of project team. Those people should also contribute in finding and fixing bugs even before they reach the goalkeepers or testing team. If other project team members do not do their job well, then for sure goalkeepers or testers will not be able to prevent the goals or bugs.
Finally, we mean by bugs here those that can be found before releasing the software to the customer. Of course we need to keep in mind that no software is bug free and some bugs show only after releasing the software to the customer.
All the best…

about 11 years agoVery good analogy. A good goalkeeper is a great asset for any team. But that doesn't mean that once a team has a good goalkeeper it will not suffer some defeats. The good goalkeeper only reduces (significantly) the probability of defeats.
